RODRIGO LEÃO performs ‘O Rapaz da Montanha’ live at the Coliseu de Lisboa and Coliseu do Porto

Rodrigo Leão returns to the big stage with his new album O Rapaz da Montanha, recently released by Galileo Music on 25 April. Regarded as the most Portuguese work of his career, the album offers an intimate and collective portrait of the country, in which emotion, words and memory intersect. With arrangements characterised by expressive choirs, a strong percussive presence and lyrics that tackle topics such as oppression, identity and hope, Rodrigo Leão once again signs a work of great artistic maturity.Rodrigo Leão’s career is inseparable from the recent history of Portuguese music. After being a member of Sétima Legião and Madredeus, he began a solo career in 1993 that included collaborations with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto and Beth Gibbons. Thirty-two years on from the start of that journey, he is now presenting an album inspired by a phrase from writer Ana Carolina Costa – ‘If God forgives those who deceive, who forgives God?’ – which embodies the theme Cadeira Preta.

Rapaz da Montanha features musicians and long-time friends such as Pedro Oliveira and Gabriel Gomes, as well as special guests including José Peixoto, Carlos Poeiras and Francisco Palma. The composer’s family also has a significant presence in this work, with contributions from Ana Carolina Costa and his children, reinforcing the intimate and collective nature of the disc.

Produced by Rodrigo Leão, João Eleutério and Pedro Oliveira, this is an album made up of deep emotions, living memory and persistent hope. The concerts at the Coliseums in Lisbon and Porto promise to be special moments of sharing and celebration of this new stage in the composer’s career.

In Lisbon, at the Coliseu dos Recreios on 19 December, and on 1 February 2026 at the Coliseu do Porto, O Rapaz da Montanha live.

An intimate and collective return to his roots, where Rodrigo Leão’s music becomes common ground – between memory and the future, between silence and celebration.
